This particular morning, we took a later shuttle over to Union Station. Once there, we walked over to the Capitol Building and then back to the Library of Congress. We were hoping for the public tour, but it didn’t start until 10:30 and we were not willing to wait around that long. Still, the areas we could see were just awesome. I love the architecture of that place and the circular, glass-enclosed bookshelves made me jealous! Read more

Our third morning began the same as the second. However, this time we rode the metro to the waterfront. Now I probably shouldn’t admit this, but we had trouble finding the pier for our cruise. We walked all around that waterfront area before we found where we wanted to be, thanks to some very nice morning walkers. Fortunately, we were early and so did not miss our 8:15 boarding. Read more

On day 2 of our trip, we had a great breakfast and took the shuttle to Union Station. We took the metro over to Arlington and spent a few hours walking around the cemetery and were able to catch the tail end of the Changing of the Guard. We also walked thru Arlington House and took in the view of the city. On our way out, we stopped at the Women’s Memorial. Read more

We left our home the morning of Sunday, July 31st and headed for Hagerstown. My husband had been seeing flyers for a restaurant called Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant. He really liked our trip to Hofbrauhaus in Pittsburgh so he figured German / Bavarian, how much can they differ? Quite a bit, as it turns out even though there are similarities. We had some spare time before the restaurant opened and so enjoyed a walk around the town. Schmankerl Stube is right near the theatre area so there were cool statues and mosaics to see.
